'There was a young kid in the house and they stabbed a man for no reason' - shocking footage shows aftermath of burglary
This shocking footage shows how a young father who was savagely attacked with a knife had to climb out of a window to escape from his home after a gang of armed men broke in.
The shocking incident happened in Alderwood Green, Tallaght, late on Wednesday night.
A gang of three men armed with knives arrived at the rented property and rang the bell, and then attacked a Brazilian national when he answered the door.
“I was in bed when it happened. I didn’t know what was going on,” said another man living in the house who did not want to give his name out of fear.
“A woman who is the girlfriend of another man who lives in the house ran into my room screaming.
“Then when I came out of the room and went downstairs there was blood on the walls.
“The guy who was stabbed has a three-year-old child who was here at the time so I grabbed the kid and we ran out.”
The Brazilian victim, who is in his 30s, was badly stabbed in the hand. He was taken to St James’s Hospital for treatment.
“I have no idea why these guys picked this house. There is no money here – they got two phones, that was it,” said his housemate.
“I am going to move out now. I’m not staying here. Once my housemate opened the door he was attacked straight away. He did not try to fight them. Instead he was trying to defend himself. He had to escape through the window and out over the bins. It is disgusting.”
A neighbour said there was a large number of gardai on the estate yesterday morning.
The window the victim escaped from was smeared with blood, and inside the house there were blood splashes on the walls and on the floor from the front door, down the hall, into the living room and over to the window. Fingerprint dust used by the garda forensic team could be seen on the front door.
The gang ransacked the living room but did not go into any other rooms, and fled shortly afterwards on foot. It is not known why the house was targeted but early indications are that it was a random burglary or robbery that escalated for no apparent reason.
“They might have been desperate for money. I don’t know. But why here? And why us?” said the victim’s housemate as he gathered his belongings and prepared to move.
“There was a young kid in the house and they stabbed a man for no reason. It’s crazy.
“There are seven of us living here, but I think we will all move out now.”
A neighbour on the road said he was shocked to discover a large bloodstain on his porch door when he got up yesterday morning.
“The lad who was stabbed must have ran this way through the gardens after he got out of the house,” the man told the Herald yesterday.
“I didn’t hear anything happening myself but it was clearly a serious incident.
“I was told by the gardai not to wash the bloodstain off until it was forensically examined.”
“The gardai stayed all night at the scene preserving it so they were treating it seriously.”
