THE country is set to experience a taste of summer today but forecaster's are warning against packing the brollies away just yet.

While warm dry conditions will spread across the country today, the bad news is the rain is not too far away.

Met Eireann forecaster Harm Luijkx has warned that the brief reprieve from rain will only last until Sunday at the latest with unsettled weather set to take hold for next week.

While today and some of tomorrow will remain dry and see temperatures hit the 20s, cooler, wetter conditions will take hold from Sunday.

"Today will be the best of the weather, with temperatures in the high teens to early 20s. That is above average for this time of year. It will stay dry and sunny but unfortunately it is going to deteriorate over the weekend," he said. The wet weather will take hold in the north west by Saturday and will spread across the country over the weekend.
