RTE's Northern Editor ensured the freezing media got a good night's sleep on the second day of the pointless talks in Hillsborough Castle.
Sensing that the negotiations were going to drag on into nothingness, he made a unilateral decision at midnight that the meedja was going home to bed.
He told the Northern spindoctors if anything happened, good or bad, to give an hour's notice of an announcement by calling a few senior hacks, who in turn would each call some more colleagues, in a pyramid effect, and he compiled a list of numbers.
Low and behold, he was right, the talks went on until 5.30am, with nothing much happening.
