Marital Status: Married to Michelle whom he met at a law firm in Chicago in 1988. The couple have two children, Malia (12) and Sasha (10).
Born: Hawaii - Honolulu’s Kapiolani Hospital to be precise. Last month, in the midst of planning the secret raid on Osama Bin Laden, the president silenced his critics by finally releasing his longform birth certificate, showing definitively that he is a US citizen and a proud Hawaiian.
Father: Barack Hussein Obama Senior. An economist who was born in Kenya in 1936 and was a member of the ethnic Luo tribe. Estranged from his father for most of his life, Obama wrote that his father “remained a myth to me” at the time of his death following a car accident in Kenya in 1982.
Mother: Stanley Ann Dunham. An anthropologist born in Wichita, Kansas in 1942. Obama’s mother died in 1995 and never saw her son become president.
First Job: In 1979, Obama got his first job scooping icecream at a Baskin-Robbin’s store in Honolulu, Hawaii. Later on, he kissed his wife-to-be Michelle for the first time outside a Baskin Robbin’s store. “It tasted of chocolate,” he said.
Hobbies: Obama keeps a nightly journal. He surfs the web, loves reading and plas cards with his closest aides – poker is a favourite. “He doesn’t really take that much time off,” a member of the White House press corps told the Irish Independent.
Favourite Sports: Obama plays golf at Andrew’s Air Force base in Maryland and enjoys shooting a few hoops (that’s basketball to you an me) when he has a bit of free time. He made headlines when he converted a tennis court at the White House into a basket ball court.
Gym Buff: When he’s not on the links or on the basketball court, the president also likes to keep fit by working out in the gym at the White House. Insiders say he spends at least 40 minutes working out
What’s on his iPod: Obama has over 2,000 songs on his iPod ranging from Stevie Wonder to Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Miles Davies, Bruce Springsteen and Sheryl Crowe. The president admits that he’s “not a big opera buff” but his playlist also includes a lot of classical music.
Technology Geek: America’s tech-savvy president recently purchased the go-to gadget of the moment – an Apple iPad 2 with a grey Smart Cover. A dedicated Mac user, Obama reportedly uses a MacBook Pro while both his kids have MacBooks.
Favourite Tipple: The president loves a cold beer and recently turned his hand to home brewing, debuting his own special honey beer – made with honey from beehives on the White House south lawn.
