554,000 -- the number of non-Irish, one-eighth of the population, now living here, up 10,000 on 2012

120,000 -- the estimated number of non-European nationals living in Ireland

95,000 -- the number of visa applications made in 2013, up 8pc on 2012

30,000 -- the number of citizenship applications decided upon in 2013 -- up 5,000 on 2012

2,250 -- the number of people deported or denied entry to the country in 2013, down from 2,700 in 2011

946 -- the number of asylum applications made in 2013, down 10 on the previous year

39,600 -- the number of students from outside of Europe studying here in 2013 -- 8,200 more than in 2012
