The new hospital: facts and figures

First patient to be admitted by 2015. Located in Eccles St on Mater Hospital site. It will involve the merging of three children's hospitals -- Temple Street, Crumlin and Tallaght. Will have 445 beds over 16 storeys, including 53 day-care beds and 392 single room en-suite beds, with 62 for critical care. The three hospitals currently have 468 beds. 13 operating theatres. Overnight in-room beds for parents, family accommodation nearby. Play areas, external gardens, courtyards and a therapy pool and gym. 1,000-space multi-storey car park, with free parking for families of critically ill children or those in long-term care. Project is estimated to cost €650m -- €100m less than expected. €400m will be allocated by the Exchequer, €50m by the HSE, €90m from car parking, retail units and private clinics, and €110m from fundraising. Building to start at end of next year.
