Cost: €1bn. Length: 60km, from Clonee to north of Kells, Co Meath. Materials: 10 million tonnes of clay excavated, two million tonnes of stone used in the foundation and more than one million tonnes of macadam used to pave the 1.75 square metres of road surface. Towns bypassed: Dunshaughlin, Navan and Kells. Traffic: 37,000 vehicles daily. Toll costs: 70c for motorcycles, €1.30 for cars, €2 for coaches/buses, and €2 to €3.30 for vans and lorries. Number of archaeological sites excavated during construction: 167. Green features: more than 150,000 trees and shrubs were planted along the route. Bat habitats/bat boxes and mammal underpasses have been installed.
