ANNE Enright sealed her place in literary history last night when she won the €75,000 Man Booker Prize for her novel 'The Gathering'.
The author, from Bray, Co Wicklow, was a rank outsider but beat off competition from some of the biggest names in contemporary literature.
In her acceptance speech, the stunned 45-year-old said: "I'd like to thank the love of my life, Martin Murphy, the two fantastic children he gave me -- who can now go to bed -- my family for everything and my siblings for never faltering."
