The Edge: Laura gives it welly at Glasto as Carol has va-va-voom in Lille
Irish girls really know how to get around, don't they? Is it something about the weather that they have to keep on the move? Take Laura Whitmore.
The MTV superstar was at the somewhat mucky Glastonbury on Michael Eavis's Worthy Farm in Somerset last weekend in her designer wellies.
In truth, it is a quick trip up the motorway for Bray Wanderer Laura as she lives in London. The former co-presenter of ITV's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here told me that she gave it particular welly, designer or otherwise, to lots of her favourite acts at Glasto; and while standing up to her shapely knees in mud, she wasn't once tempted to exclaim, I'm a celebrity, get me out of here. (Claudia Rocca Ryan and Danielle Rocca Devine - two daughters of Michelle Rocca, by John Devine and the late Cathal Ryan respectively - were also at the mud fields of Glasto too.)
"Glastonbury was epic. The mud didn't stop us," Laura told me (resolutely not mentioning the rumour du jour that she is to star in Strictly Come Dancing when it returns in the autumn.)
"My favs were Foals, Jack Garratt, Adele, Muse - I saw Michael Eavis bopping away to their set. Coldplay's tribute to Viola Beach was brilliant and Craig David was so good." Cork-born singer-turned-business-woman Carol Anthony no doubt feels precisely the same about her beau, Ian Rush. She has been in France with her Welsh football legend, who was working with the Wales team at Euros 2016, for the whole tournament. Carol was staying at the 5 Star Resort Barrière in Lille with Ian ahead of Wales' crunch game last Friday night against the Belgians.
Prior to that, they had based themselves at the Intercontinental in Bordeaux city for the duration of the tournament. Ian and Cazza travelled to Lyons for the Ireland v France heart-breaker last Sunday.
Mick Wallace, whose hair is almost as beautiful as Carol's, was there too.
Greece is the word for Made In Chelsea's beauty Nicola
It seems like an open secret that Irish star of E4's posh reality-TV show Made In Chelsea and her boyfriend Alex Mytton, who is also on the show, are re-negotiating their relationship status.
Despite telling me in LIFE Magazine before Christmas in reference to Alex, 'He's a keeper', Dubliner Nicola Hughes might possibly be revising that opinion of Alex who she has been dating since August, 2014.
Be that as it may - and notwithstanding all the brouhaha over the alleged split with bad boy Alex - the TV star and model seemed in fabulous form when I exchanged texts with her last week.
"I'm good. London life, then heading to Mykonos in a few weeks."
As we all know Rory McIlroy is definitely not heading to Brazil for the Rio Olympics over his fears of the pesky Zika virus, but still he steeped himself in the culture of that part of Latin America last weekend.
The golfer was in the Mexican-themed emporium Xico on sultry Baggot Street last Friday with a gang of 12 friends.
The occasion was, of course, Rory's stag in advance of his wedding (believed to be New Year's Eve in Ashford Castle in Cong) to Erica Stoll.
They stayed until 3am in Xico, having arrived at midnight from Rory's hip new establishment Zozimus on Anne's Lane.
On the Saturday night, Roz Purcell was in also in Xico with her pal singer and reality star Louise Johnston and some other friends for drinks from 11pm to 1am.
But back to Friday night.
It was on this night that Keith Duffy hosted an extra special occasion in House.
Keith and his wife Lisa Duffy celebrated their 18th anniversary with several of their friends in the trendy club on Leeson Street.
My source told me that Lisa arrived in a beautiful mauve dress but later changed into a more comfortable red jumpsuit."
House was extra stuffed that night with many of the great and the good - and Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh - from The Annual CARI Summer Lunch earlier that day at The Shelbourne Hotel arriving for yet more fun.
These bon viveurs included, among many others, Glenda Gilson, Norah Casey, Cecilia Ahern, and the aforesaid Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh.
How much more fun can the country take?
Tatiana's husband is the toast of Tech world
His Fair (City) Lady - Tatiana Ouliankina - will be best pleased.
Or whatever the appropriate phrase in Russian is for being best pleased or de-lira.
Word reaches your diarist that dashing tech entrepreneur, and husband of the aforesaid Rusky beauty based-in-Dublin, Tats, John Moore's 3D4Medical has won an Apple Design Award, which honours design and innovation, for their new application at the Worldwide Design Awards in America's fairest city, San Francisco.
For the ignorant gobdaws among you, these Awards are the Oscars of the tech world.
(Didn't you know and John beat off competition from two million other entries to scoop the prize? Well, you do now.)
Some feat, but no problem for John. It sounds like the level of competition he had to beat off when he was vying for the attention of his stunning actress other-half, Ms Ouliankina who wowed us all, once upon a time, in RTE's Fair City.
The happy couple were no doubt celebrating this prestigious gong in style and so they should, as it is joy unconfined all around.
It's usually all about the beautiful Tatiana in this column, but for one week only the spotlight is firmly on John. Enjoy it while you can, John. Tats will be back next week.
Laura and Ali light up Lisbon
The fashionable Irish made their mark in Portugal recently. How do I know this? Because fashionista supremo Laura Horgan and Ali Chawke - daughter of the never-less-than-colourful publican extraordinare, Charlie - sent me a picture from their pal Rachel Doyle's hen do in Lisbon last month.
Laura and Ali were also at VBF's Hayley Purcell's hen last weekend at the Body & Soul festival in Ballinlough Castle in Westmeath. Indeed Laura and Ali are also going to the Beyonce concert this Saturday in Croke Park. But I digress.
Asked by your trusty correspondent did being on the hen stir up any memories for Laura - who married her stockbroker boyfriend Ronan Horgan in Castle Leslie in Monaghan in 2010 - she replied: "It was just great being away with the girls.
"So much changes when you get married and have kids, it's important to get away with the girls from time to time. I got married six years ago. Madness! Time really does fly. Best decision I ever made.
"I'm really lucky, great husband and two beautiful babies, Elizabeth (2) Hugo (eight months) and looking forward to the girls' weddings now. Nothing beats a good wedding, I love them and especially love putting the outfits together," added Laura, a creative director of Fran & Jane for a decade but who is now running her own personal and corporate image consultancy company LNH Image International.
Georgia on Celia's mind in Cannes
It's one of the most expensive hotels in one of the most expensive parts of the world. But if Celia Holman Lee and husband Ger want to mark their 44th wedding anniversary with ten days in the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, then c'est la vie?
"It's a real struggle to make any money in the fashion business in Ireland, but we decided as a rare treat to ourselves to splash out," the ageless model agent told petite moi. "It was a wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. There is no where like Cannes." It would appear so. I mean, where else but on the Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes would you bump into Irish supermodel Georgia Salpa pushing a pram with her husband Joe Penna - as Celia and Ger did. Indeed on the following night Celia and Ger bumped into Georgia and Joe and the aforesaid pram at practically the same spot. "She is a lovely woman," said Celia of Georgia. She should have asked the Greek rose Georgia to model at her fashion show at the Festival Dome in Tralee on August 21st at the Rose Of Tralee.
Johnny comes to the mountain as Joe has mass appeal in Peter's Church
Johnny Ronan always has to be different, doesn't he? Just as all the Irish have come back from France, the Bearded Buccaneer jetted out there on Thursday morning. Don't jump to any conclusions: Johnny boy wasn't going on a jolly. Those days appear to be behind him. No - he was cycling in the La Marmotte with 7,500 other riders. Say a prayer for him as last night he was cycling up the Col du Glandon mountain pass in Saint-Colomban-des-Villards, which rises to a height of 1,924 metres. (If the mountain won't come to Johnny then Johnny must go to the mountain, or what?)
Ye of little faith don't realise how good Johnny is in the saddle.
On the subject of faith, my spies in the House of the Lord - that's God not the Lord Of The Dance, Michael Flatley in case you're wondering - tell me that the esteemed and rightly popular Vice President of the United States Joe Biden was at 10am mass last Sunday in the company of US ambassador Kevin O'Malley at the beautiful Peter's Church in Phibsboro.
The priest wasn't the only man in black in the church as there were also one or two of Mr Biden's Vice Presidential security detail deep in ecclesiastical contemplation. I always felt Mr Biden had mass appeal and indeed could be a future President.
