The big count: Census 2016 date revealed

The date of Ireland's next census has been revealed.

The big count will take place on Sunday, April 24 of 2016.

Census forms will be delivered to households nationwide from mid-March and the results will be made public in July.

Recruitment for the census staff will take place in January when approximately 4,700 'Census Enumerator' positions will be advertised.

Recruitment of Field Supervisors has already been completed.

The last census took place on Sunday, 10 April 2011.

It found the population to be 4,588,252 people.
