The job of a campaign manager is thankless. Joe Costello did a solid job for Michael Twee throughout the campaign and no job was too menial for him.
Late on Wednesday night, Joe was spotted up a ladder on the North Strand in the Dublin Central constituency fixing posters for the following morning's polling day. What a guy.
Charlie Flanagan and Brian Hayes had a more difficult task managing their respective candidates, Fine Gael's presidential hopeful Gay Mitchell, and Dublin West by-election candidate Eithne Loftus.
Not exactly blessed with the most inspirational of candidates, the role of Flanagan and Hayes were being described as akin to Japanese soldiers, knowing defeat was inevitable but still doing their best to protect the empire.
