Terror for family in nail bomb attack

Luke Byrne and Tom Brady

A FAMILY were threatened with the destruction of their home, leaving "no survivors", two weeks before a nail bomb exploded outside the front door.

Father-of-two Thomas Fagan (49), from Cushlawn Park, Tallaght, Co Dublin, said he "hasn't a clue" why his house was targeted.

Shortly after 3am yesterday a homemade device exploded on his doorstep, damaging the front door and windows and leaving a trail of nails running up the stairs. Nobody was injured in the blast.

"The house was threatened and we were told to get out or it would be blown up and there'd be no survivors," Mr Fagan told the Irish Independent. The family moved out for a time but recently returned.

Detectives said they believed the nail bomb had been planted outside the house by a local gang, that was heavily involved in criminality. Anybody with information has been asked to contact Tallaght gardai at 01 666 6000 or 1800 666111.
