A young Irish expat (26) has been killed in a road traffic accident in Australia.
It is believed that the Mayo-born man was struck by a vehicle while walking on a footpath on Saturday night.
Michelle Mulherin told The Star newspaper that his loss was a “terrible tragedy” for his parents, “especially as it happened so far away from home”.
“The death is a big shock to the community and it shows how fragile life is. Seamus comes from a popular and well-liked family,” she said.
“I know that friends and neighbours will rally around the family to give much needed support at this very difficult time,” the Fine Gael TD added.
It is understood that Irish Consular officials are currently working with the family as regards bringing the remains back to Attymass, Co Mayo for burial.
