THE Waterford-Cork road was temporarily closed after a ten vehicle pile up due to heavy fog.
The accident, which occurred shortly before 8am at Carrigtwohill east of Cork city, resulted in damage to 10 vehicles.
While a number of people were injured, none suffered major injuries or required hospitalisations.
Gardai closed the road to allow for the vehicles and debris to be removed and motorists were diverted onto the old Cork-Waterford road between Carrigtwohill and Dunkettle.
The accident resulted in traffic delays of up to 50 minutes for motorists caught in peak morning congestion.
Both Gardai and the AA have appealed to drivers to slow drive and exercise maximum caution when driving in fog.
An investigation into the cause of the pile-up remains ongoing.
