Temporary lay-offs for 190 at healthcare giant
FEARS are mounting over the future of 190 contract jobs at a US healthcare giant.
Boston Scientific, which confirmed 175 job losses at their giant Galway plant on Monday, is now expected to seek the temporary lay-off of 190 contract staff at their Cork plant.
Contract staff at the firm's Model Farm Road plant in Cork were informed yesterday that phased lay-offs were expected to commence from February 26 next.
While no figure was placed on the lay-off total, it is expected that up to 190 staff may be impacted.
However, the lay-offs are understood to be only temporary, pending specific product developments.
Despite the lay-offs in Cork and Galway, Boston Scientific will still employ close to 4,800 staff in Ireland.
Boston Scientific was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts.
