Teenager remanded over man's gun death

An 18-year-old was remanded in custody today over the killing of another young man as he socialised with friends.

Craig Mullarney, from the Clonsilla area of west Dublin, was charged in connection with the death of Chris Emmett, who was fatally injured by a shotgun blast.

The 21-year-old father-of-two was shot in the face at a house in Blanchardstown in the early hours of Tuesday.

A legally-held firearm was recovered from the house in Fortlawn Park.

Mr Mullarney appeared briefly before Blanchardstown District Court charged with recklessly discharging a firearm under Section 8 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990.

Judge David Mc Hugh remanded him in prison with consent to bail until next Thursday, February 25.

Mr Emmett had been socialising at the house in Fortlawn Park with at least three other people when one or more shots were fired from a gun at around 3am.
