AN 18-year-old man who was killed in a car crash in the early hours of this morning would have turned 19 in a fortnight.
Steven Carney was killed after the car he was driving struck a wall on the Birr Road in Roscrea, Co Tipperary.
The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 16-year-old friend who was the only passenger in the car at the time was seriously injured.
The black BMW crashed into a wall outside the Roscrea local authorities office on the Birr Road about 2am this morning.
The car was removed from the scene yesterday afternoon and family members arrived with floral tributes.
Gardai have confirmed they are looking for information in relation to a stolen BMW that was involved in the accident.
The body of Steven Carney, from Kennedy Park, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital where a post mortem will be held.
The passenger (16), who is also from Roscrea, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
It is believed the pair were travelling into Roscrea when the collision occurred in a built-up area within the town limits.
"Gardaí in Roscrea, Co Tipperary investigating the fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the Birr Rd, Roscrea this morning at approximately 1.55am are appealing for witnesses," a garda spokesman said.
"Any person who may have information in relation to a black BMW car been taken from a compound at Brosna, Birr Co Offaly between 1am and 1.40am on the 21st April 2014
"This car was later involved in a fatal collision in Roscrea."
The scene is being preserved for a Garda Forensic Collision Examination and there are road diversions in place.
