Teenager in hospital after shooting

An 18-year-old was recovering in hospital today after an early morning gun attack.

The teenager was shot in the stomach just after 1am in Templemore, Co Tipperary.

He was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardai said a 21-year-old was arrested a short time later under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He is being questioned at Templemore Garda Station where he can be held for up to three days.

The weapon has not been recovered.

The scene, on Patrick Street, is currently sealed off for forensic examination.

A garda spokesman said investigations are continuing.
