Teenager discovered naked and injured in field in Longford

A WOMAN is recovering in hospital after she was found naked in a field with head and body injuries.

The 18-year-old woman, originally from Co Meath, was discovered by a man in a field on the outskirts of Edgeworthstown, Co Longford on Wednesday.

She had been exposed to the elements and was said to have been shaken following her ordeal.

The teenager had a serious injury to her forehead. She also had an injury to the back of her head and bruises and cuts to her upper body.

She was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar and transferred to Tullamore. Her condition was described last night as serious but not life threatening.

The young woman was not raped or sexually assaulted. She was found by a local man out exercising his dogs and gardai were alerted.







A man in his 30s, originally from Limerick, was arrested for assault at lunch time on Wednesday. He was released yesterday.



The investigation is still ongoing but it is understood officers are not looking for anybody else in connection with the assault. It is understood the man is known to the young woman, however, Gardai have been unable to get a statement from the girl in relation to what happened. They hope that doctors will soon allow them to talk to her







Gardai have said that the woman was lucky to be discovered by the man out walking his dogs, as conditions on Wednesday were wet and windy.
