Teenager charged with DJ's murder

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy appeared in court last night charged with the murder of David Byrne (19), a part-time DJ, on March 19 at the car park of Emmet Court apartment block in Inchicore, Dublin.

The accused was brought before the Criminal Court of Justice in a late-night sitting. He was remanded in custody to appear before the Children's Court next Thursday.

Lifeboat rescues swimmer from sea

SWIMMERS were last night warned to take care in the hot weather after a young woman was rescued as she was being swept out to sea.

The incident happened about 3.45pm yesterday off Bundoran beach in Co Donegal. A member of the public raised the alarm. A man swam out to the woman and held on to her. Malin Head Coast Guard alerted Bundoran lifeboat. The man and woman were taken from the water by the lifeboat crew about 4.20pm. Neither needed medical attention. The Coast Guard later advised people to wear life jackets and to be careful in the sea.

Measles outbreak sparks warning

Health experts have warned parents travelling abroad to ensure their children are vaccinated against measles following an outbreak of the disease in Europe.

More than 6,500 cases have been reported in 33 countries so far this year with failure to vaccinate children being blamed for the problem. So far, 24 cases have been detected in Ireland -- down significantly from 324 in the same period last year. Of these, 17 were children.
