Teen questioned over violence at horse fair
GARDAI were questioning a teenager last night in connection with the bloody violence that erupted between Traveller families at a horse fair in the centre of Dublin earlier this month.
Officers arrested the 17-year-old suspect in Dundalk on Sunday morning and he was taken to the Bridewell garda station in Dublin for questioning.
He was detained last night under section 30 of the Offences Against State Act for an alleged firearms offence and could be held without charge for up to three days.
Investigations into the violence at Smithfield fair have already extended from Dublin city centre to the south east and the midlands while inquiries were also carried out in Galway and in Northern Ireland.
Two men were injured when a member of the warring factions opened fire with an improvised homemade shotgun. A handgun was also fired twice but nobody was hurt.
A third victim almost had his arm severed when he was struck with a slash-hook.
