Teen arrested after man (66) left critical following assault

A 66-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious assault.

The incident occurred at a house in Kilcaroon, Ballyporeen yesterday afternoon.

An altercation occurred between two males at the house shortly before 2.45pm.

It is understood that the two men are known to each other.

The victim received serious head and neck injuries and was taken to South Tipperary Hospital and later transferred to Cork University hospital. His injuries are described as critical.

The house has been sealed off for a technical examination.

An 18-year-old man was later arrested in Cahir and is being detained at Cahir Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
