Teen (17) arrested by detectives investigating alleged rape of woman

A 17-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Randalstown, Co Antrim.

The woman aged in her 30s reported the serious sexual assault to police in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident took place in the New Street area of the town at around 2am.

Detective Inspector Ciaran Whoriskey said: “A 17-year-old male youth has since been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently in custody assisting with enquiries.”

Police have appealed for information.
