Teams help women injured on icy peak

TWO women had to be rescued from the same mountain within 24 hours after suffering injuries in the Arctic weather conditions.

A lady in her 50s yesterday slipped on ice and injured her lower leg on the slopes of Trooperstown Mountain in Co Wicklow.

Glen of Imaal and Dublin-Wicklow mountain rescue teams came to her aid at 4pm and transported her to Rathdrum to an awaiting ambulance.

On Wednesday another woman had to be taken from her snowbound home on the same mountain to receive treatment for a fractured wrist.

The woman was injured when she also slipped on ice.

The rescue teams had to use 4x4 all-terrain vehicles to bring her to a waiting ambulance in Glenealy, 15km away.

She was taken to St Vincent's hospital for further treatment.
