TEACHERS in hundreds of schools will opt out of out-of-school activities and parent teacher meetings from of this morning as part of industrial action.
The Association of Secondary Teachers' Ireland (ASTI) has directed its members that from today they are not to attend meetings that take place outside normal school hours. It has also banned the taking on of additional middle management duties without pay and participation in training for the new Junior Cert as of this morning at 8am.
The Department of Education made no comment last night on the start of the ASTI industrial action.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is not making any statement on the talks.
