Teacher threatened at knife point at all-boys secondary school

A WOMAN walked into a school at the start of the new term and threatened a staff member with a knife.
But gardai were called and quickly detained the 52-year-old woman.
The incident took place at St Muredach's College in Ballina, Co Mayo, at around 10am yesterday.
The woman went into an office in the all-boys secondary school and confronted a female teacher but did not attempt to access a classroom. The woman is not a parent of any student.
Gardai arrived shortly after the teacher had been threatened and took possession of the knife.
She was arrested at the scene but later taken to a hospital unit for mentally ill patients.
