TDs were locked inside Leinster House this evening as medicinal cannabis campaigner Vera Twomey and her supporters staged a sit down protest at the gates.

Ms Twomey is demanding a meeting with Health Minister Simon Harris to discuss the legalisation of medicinal cannabis to treat her sick daughter Ava, who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy.

Some 18 gardai have surrounded Ms Twomey and three other supporters.

TDs hoping to drive home to their constituencies are lined up in their cars inside Leinster House.

Solidarity-People Before Profit TDs Gino Kenny, Richard Boyd Barrett and Brid Smith are supporting the protest.
