Taxi driver hurt in carjack assault
A taxi driver needed hospital treatment after being assaulted when his car was hijacked in Cork.
One man was arrested after the stolen vehicle later crashed in L ower Killeens, Blarney, at 1.30am.
Gardai said the taxi driver, a man in his early 70s, picked up two men at Dillons Cross.
"While heading in the direction of Cork city, the driver was threatened and then assaulted," said a spokesman.
"The offenders removed the driver from the vehicle at a service station on the Carrigohane Straight and drove off in the car.
"They subsequently crashed at Lower Killeens a short time later. One man was arrested at the scene, while the other fled the scene on foot."
The suspect, in his early 30s, is being questioned at Gurranbraher Garda Station.
The taxi driver was taken to Cork University Hospital with a facial injury and released a short time later.
