Taoiseach's mother slips away, aged 93
Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended his party's annual presidential dinner in Dublin's Burlington Hotel last night, despite the death of his mother Eithne, aged 93, yesterday morning.
Mrs Kenny (nee McGinley) was originally from Donegal. She met and married her late husband, Henry Kenny, a TD for West Mayo, while a home economics teacher in the 1940s. Henry Kenny died in 1975 and Enda, then 24, won the subsequent by-election.
Huge crowds are expected to pay their last respects when Mrs Kenny's remains repose at the Coady Funeral Home, Castlebar, from 4pm to 8pm today. She will be laid to rest following requiem mass tomorrow.
