TAOISEACH Enda Kenny says he called to visit the late Fine Gael TD Nicky McFadden last week, just day before her death.
Ms McFadden passed away today following a battle with motor neurone disease.
Mr Kenny paid tribute to the Longford-Westmeath TD following her death.
The Taoiseach said she passed away on the Feast of the Assumption.
He said she was beginning her new life away from the pain of her disease.
“She brings her goodness with her,” he said.
Mr Kenny said he visited her last Friday on his way from Dublin to Castlebar following the EU summit meeting.
Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams and Independent TD Maureen O’Sullivan paid tribute to Ms McFadden.
Last year, the TD spoke of her shock at being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
At the time she vowed to press ahead with her duties as a government TD despite her diagnosis.
The mother-of-two admitted that her children, Eoin and Caren, were 'devastated' when they were told the news.
