Taoiseach of the Year:

Brian Lenihan: Grew in stature as the year went on and was a key figure in the economic arguments in favour of the Lisbon Treaty, the passing of Nama and the €4bn cuts in Budget 2010. Showed true leadership at a time when the country needed it. A speedy recovery this year in his cancer battle is called for.
Brian Cowen: You've got to be kidding me? These are serious awards. Qualifies for nomination solely on the basis that his title is still Taoiseach.
Enda Kenny: Came so close to power in 2009, he could almost taste it. But it's still so far away. Kenny did have a good year though, with Fine Gael winning the local elections and European elections and with George Lee coming into the party for a spectacular victory. He showed balls by facing down the internal nay-sayers on scrapping the Seanad.
And the winner is: Brian Lenihan, the leader actually running the country.
