Talk to Joe -- about water in Africa

BROADCASTER Joe Duffy has offered former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern the chance to tell his side of the story.

If 14 days in the witness box during the Mahon Tribunal wasn't harrowing enough, the RTE personality has suggested Mr Ahern might explain himself to "the real people" of Ireland on his radio programme.

"It would be an opportunity to talk to the real people who placed their trust in him over the years," he told the Irish Independent.

Mr Duffy was speaking yesterday as he helped mark the World Water Day Appeal as Fire Fighters of Ireland raise funds for life-saving water projects in West Africa.

Donations can be made to the World Water Day Appeal, visit, or call freefone 1800 829 829.

Alternatively, donations can be sent to Plan Ireland, 126 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2.
