Take out the winter woollies - frost, sleet and some snow forecast from tonight

Take out the winter woollies again – temperatures are set to drop to as low as -2 degrees tonight.

Snow and sleet is forecast for tonight on higher ground in the northern and eastern parts of the country. While frost will be widespread and sharp in places, Met Eireann says.

Tonight will be cold, with clear spells and occasional showers, some wintry.

Tomorrow will also be a cold day with a mixture of sunny spells, showers, and sleet, hail and snow in places.

Then tomorrow night temperatures will again drop to between zero and minus two degrees.

Sunday will be cold, sunny and dry. Temperatures will reach nine or ten degrees in mainly light to moderate westerly winds.

Met Eireann says it will remain colder than usual for the time of year out to the end of the week too but it will also remain largely dry. Though the south coast and the southeast could see some rain on Wednesday and Thursday, Met Eireann says.
