A FARMER who lost his father in an accident on their farm has appealed to others to take the time to think about safety.

Brian Rohan and his wife Norma set up the Embrace organisation after the death, in 2012, of his father, Liam (74), on the family farm in Shanahoe, Co Laois. "He was taking a machine apart because it wasn't working 100pc," Brian said. "All we can work out is that it came apart too soon. He received a blow to the side of the head."

The Embrace group held a memorial service on June 29, which was attended by family members of accident victims from all over the country. Now Brian is hoping the group can help raise awareness of farm safety issues.

"One minute to stop and think about safety, on any job, can save a life," he said.
