THE first ever tweet in Irish was sent from outer space last night by a Canadian astronaut.
Former Canadian Royal Air Force pilot Cmdr Chris Hadfield tweeted a stunning night time photo of Dublin from 350km above the ground along with the words: “Tá Éire fíorálainn! Land of green hills dark beer. With Dublin glowing in the Irish night.”
Hadfield (53) will take full command of the international space station next month when three of his fellow astronauts return to Earth.
He revealed on Sunday he has a special interest in keeping his eye on Ireland - his daughter is currently living here.
His use of Irish in his tweet prompted a flurry of positive messages, with the pilot later tweeting: “Wow, I can feel the warmth of the Irish all the way up here – go raibh maith agaibh!”
