Syndicate of 17 airport workers scoop €6.4m Lotto jackpot
Seventeen lucky members of Dublin Airport Authority staff have struck gold and scooped the €6.4 million Lotto jackpot.
Not surprisingly, the news resulted in much celebration around Terminal One earlier today.
“Seventeen people came forward this morning,” a source close to the winners told the Evening Herald.
“They are all staff of the DAA and work in the retail sector in the airport. We've heard lots of whoops and hollers in the halls and around the terminal - they are delighted. It's not every day you win the Lotto.”
“It's a group of colleagues who do the Lotto every week.
“It's a bit of a tradition for the group but I don't think even they could believe it.
“They certainly look and sound a little shell shocked. They winners are delighted but as of yet they are not going public. They want to let it sink in a bit more.”
All seventeen winners will split the cash - each pocketing an impressive €364,705.882.
“They will be splitting it evenly,” the source explained.
“There is a great buzz and excitement around the airport and lots of hugs and cheers. The atmosphere is great.
“I've never seen anything like it. It's great for the airport and for all the people who won.
“I’d say there will be even more celebrating this week. The drinks will definitely be on the winners this Friday.”
The winning ticket was bought at the Spar shop in the arrivals hall of Terminal One at Dublin Airport last week.
Purchased on Wednesday, the ticket was a €112 eight-draw multidraw with quick pick. The amount spent led to speculation that staffers had nabbed the winning ticket.
Elaine Wilson works in the Spar shop and said it was unusual for passengers to spend so much on a Lotto ticket.
“People passing through the airport would only really buy a quick pick, staff would spend more on a ticket,” she said.
The lucky numbers were 5,8,9,30,33,45.
