A SWIMMER has died after being rushed to hospital following his rescue from a swimming pool in one of Dublin's top gyms.
The man in his mid-30s got into difficulty while swimming in the pool at the West Wood leisure centre in Clontarf and was rushed to hospital but died soon after.
It is believed that the man had "an underlying medical condition" but the cause of his death was last night still unknown.
"Our deepest sympathies and concern at this stage are with the family and friends of the gentleman," said a spokesman for the West Wood club.
The spokesman said that: "Gardai are aware of an underlying medical condition."
He said that they were awaiting a coroner's report to identify the cause of death.
