THE partner of a swan killed when he struck power lines during a storm has been returning to the scene to mourn his death, writes Greg Harkin.
The bird -- nicknamed Sparky inset, because of the accident -- died on Wednesday despite the frantic efforts of the family who found him two days earlier.
Swans form life-long bonds and it seems Sparky's partner is devastated.
"We brought him to our house and tried to look after him," said Caroline McGlynn (the swan was found close to her home in Burtonport, Co Donegal).
"His partner keeps coming back to look for him," said Caroline.
"She is swimming up to where the accident happened and is obviously looking for him. The whole experience has left us devastated."
