Surgery for mother knifed on the street

A 60-year-old woman who was stabbed in a town centre as she walked to a birthday party has undergone surgery, writes Edel Kennedy.

Therese Moore underwent the procedure in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, and is now said to be in a stable condition.

The mother of three was stabbed a number of times in the upper body on Saturday night on West Street, Drogheda -- outside St Peter's Church.

A woman is due in court today in connection with the incident.

The 36-year-old woman was charged at a special sitting of Drogheda District Court on Sunday night with assault causing harm.

She was remanded in custody and is due before the court again this morning.
