'Death of a Superhero', which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, has been snapped up by distribution companies in the United States, Canada and Latin America.

Filmed on location in Dublin and Wicklow, the movie is based on the novel by internationally acclaimed author Anthony McCarten. It tells the story of a terminally ill teenager who escapes life to live out his illustrated comic adventures.

It has been sold to Tribeca Enterprises in the US and Canada and Pasatiempo Pictures in Latin America.

The Irish Film Board said it was great to make a US sale in an incredibly competitive market for independent film.

"Growing international audiences for Irish films is a priority for the industry," said a spokeswoman.
