Strategic jobs plan published
THE jobs strategy ordered by Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton after the closure of the Talk Talk call centre has now been published, writes Eimear Ni Bhraonain.
British telecoms giant Talk Talk announced it was pulling out of Waterford in September, with the loss of up to 570 jobs. Mr Bruton ordered Forfas to prepare an employment action plan.
The report, which is over 100 pages long, focuses on how the Belview port needs to be developed. It also said the merging of Waterford city and county councils is "welcome".
The Viking and Historical Quarters of Waterford city should be completed and marketed to tourists, the report states. The agri-food sector is also singled out to be improved.
