Road closures, flooded railways, flight and ferry cancellations as nation braces itself for Storm Frank

There is widespread disruption to road, rail and ferries as the country braces itself for the arrival of Storm Frank.

Motorists, commuters and those travelling abroad have had their plans thrown into disarray – with Connacht and Leinster worst affected.

Connacht:

GALWAY:

The N18 Limerick/ Galway Rd is closed at Labane due to flooding. Diversions are in place.

There is some flooding on the N59 Galway/ Clifden Rd at Rosscahill but the road is passable with care.

ROSCOMMON:

The Tulsk/ Castleplunket Rd (R367) and the Castlrea/ Castleplunket Rd are both impassable due to flooding. Use alternative routes.

MAYO:

The Ballinrobe/ Glencorrib Rd (R334) is closed at The Neale and Cross due to flooding. Motorists are advised to use the N84 instead.

SLIGO/ LEITRIM:

There is flooding on the Sligo/ Drumahaire Rd (R286) at Hazelwood. Take care on the route.

LEITRIM:

The N4 Sligo/ Dublin Rd in Carrick-on-Shannon is down to one lane at Shannonside Retail Park due to flooding.

Gardai say Keadue Rd (R284) is passable with care outside Leitrim Village but there is still a lot of surface water.

Leinster:

KILKENNY:

Gardaí in Thomastown say that as a result of flooding in the town, The Quay and Marshes St (Station Rd) are both impassable.

The Kilkenny/New Ross Rd (R700) is currently impassable at Inistioge due to floods.

The Old Waterford/ Dublin Rd (R448) between Thomastown and Gowran at Kilfane is flooded and the road is impassable.

Care is advised travelling on the Urlingford/ Kilkenny Rd (R693) due to excess surface water and possible flooding in parts.

Flooding is an issue on the Freshford/ Ballyragget Rd (R694). Avoid the route if possible.

Bleech Rd in Kilkenny City is closed following flooding.

LONGFORD:

Ardagh Rd (R393) is closed both ways at Black Bridge due to flooding.

CARLOW:

Leighlin Rd is closed at Lanigan's Lough due to flooding. Use an alternative route.

DUBLIN:

Irish Rail have confirmed that a Saturday service will operate on all DART and Connolly services and there will be alterations to other services until Wednesday (30th).

Munster:

TIPPERARY:

The N65 Portumna/ Borrisokane Rd is closed on the Portumna side of Carrigahorig due to flooding. Diversions are in place via Lorrha.

Gardai advise motorists to slow down on the N24 Tipperary/ Waterford both ways between Clonmel and Kilsheelan due to flooding. Particular care is needed through Annerville.

CORK:

The Ballea Rd (R613) is flooded in Carrigaline. Diversions are signposted

The Lee Road in Cork is closed due to flooding – Route 233 diverted via Carrigrohane Road to Leemount Cross

Ballintubber, Cork is closed due to flooding.

Route 261 has been diverted via N25 between Midleton & Carrigtwohill.

KERRY:

Milltown Bridge is reportedly passable with care on the N70 Tralee Rd.

LIMERICK/CLARE:

Irish Rail have said that the Western Corridor line remains flooded between Ennis and Limerick and bus transfers are in operation with restricted service into and out of Sixmilebridge.

Ulster:

CAVAN:

The N3 Dublin/ Cavan Rd is blocked by flooding northbound after Virginia at Aughareena.

The Stradone/ Lavey Rd (R165) is flooded in parts. Take care.

John Paul Ave is reportedly impassable with flooding towards the Dublin Rd (R212) jct.

DONEGAL:

The Moville/Quigley’s Point Rd (R238) is passable with care at Redcastle.

Bus Eireann:

Services in Cork on routes 51 & 243 are not serving Mallow Town Park due to flooding.

Eurolines:

Please note that Eurolines service 890/891 to/from Rosslare Europort to the UK have been cancelled. Passengers should contact their local office to re-schedule their journey.

Eurolines UK/National Express passengers who have booked their tickets through Eurolines.co.uk should contact 08717 818178.

Flights:

Aer Lingus have cancelled flights from Dublin to Kerry and Donegal for today.

Their Knock to London service has also been cancelled for today.

Ferries:

Meanwhile, Ferry services have been affected by the storm force winds expected later today.

Irish Ferries have cancelled several services out of Dublin today:

Irish Ferries regrets to advise that due to adverse weather conditions on the Irish Sea, the 14:15hrs Oscar Wilde Cruise Ferry sailing is cancelled.

Passengers can be accommodated on the 20:55 hrs Ulysses Cruise Ferry

 Irish Ferries regrets to advise that due to adverse weather conditions on the Irish Sea, the 14:30hrs Swift Fast Craft sailing is cancelled.

Passengers can be accommodated on either 08:05hrs, or 20:55hrs M.V Ulysses Cruise Ferry.

 Irish Ferries regrets to advise that due to adverse weather conditions on the Irish Sea, the 01:55hrs Oscar Wilde Cruise Ferry sailing is cancelled.

Passengers can be accommodated on the 20:55hrs Ulysses Cruise Ferry sailing tonight Tuesday 29.12.15. Check-in time for these sailings  is 30 minutes prior to departure.

Stenaline have also cancelled the 20:40hrs sailing of the Stena Adventurer from Dublin today due to adverse weather.
