Storm winds to batter west coast

STORM force winds are expected to batter Ireland next week when the remnants of Hurricane Katia hit.

Winds of up to 70mph can be expected in some parts if Katia continues on its current path through the Atlantic.

Hurricane-force winds of up to 90mph are expected out to sea off the west coast.

The category two hurricane is now off the coast of Bermuda but is tracking for Ireland on Monday.

Peter O'Donnell, from irishweatheronline.com, said: "There is a moderate risk of stormy weather in the coastal districts of the north and west of Ireland, as well as western Scotland."
