Storm puts halt to New Year's Swim

DESPITE the stormy weather, choppy seas and cold temperatures, some brave swimmers took their first dip of 2014 yesterday morning.

Several people also plucked up the courage to dash into the Irish Sea at the Bray seafront early yesterday morning, despite the fact that the annual New Year's Day Swim had been postponed.

John McEvoy, the organiser of the annual swim, said he was "very disappointed" to have to postpone the event, but was left with no other option due to the adverse weather conditions.

"We had 200 swimmers lined up to do it, and some of them had turned up despite the weather."

He said that a rescheduled date has yet to be chosen.
