Store shows off the best in rat ... sorry, art
SHOPPERS in Dublin's Grafton Street yesterday witnessed a striking art display of gold rats hanging in the windows of Brown Thomas.
Instead of high fashion on display, Brown Thomas took the controversial move of showing dead rats, albeit fake ones, hanging by their necks. It's the work of artist David Folan and part of a new fashion-meets-art exhibition taking place in its store.
For the next three weeks designer clothes and handbags will share the spotlight with the work of up-an-coming Dublin-based artists in the shop's windows.
Likewise Brown Thomas stores in Cork, Galway and Limerick will also showcase the talents of local artists.
Altogether 36 contemporary young artists were selected for the show, which was the idea of John Redmond, creative director for Brown Thomas.
He said: "We always gauge these things on the amount of people with their mobile phones out taking photos. It's been really well received."
