Stonemason charged with murders of two previous girlfriends

Leslie Ross has been charged with the deaths of Michelle Bickerstaff and Margaret Weise

A man has been charged with the murders of two former women partners in Northern Ireland.

Leslie Ross, 66, a stonemason, from Dromore, Co Down, is due to appear in court in Armagh tomorrow, police said tonight.

He is accused of the murders of Michelle Bickerstaff, 47, and Margaret Weise, 50.

Ross has been in custody since Tuesday when he was arrested at his home where police removed a number of items.

Mrs Weise died in August 2007. Mrs Bickerstaff died in April last year.

Ross was questioned before by police and then released without charge.

As part of the new inquiry he was also interviewed about other offences.

Ross is also due to face other serious offences, police said. There were no details.

He was also questioned about the suspicious death of mother-of-one Lily McKee, 52, a divorcee, and former beauty queen who died in December 2002. She also lived in Dromore.

Police said a file on that investigation would be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
