Three adults and a child were rushed to hospital last night after a five-car smash that left wreckage and debris scattered across west Belfast last night.
Police confirmed that a stolen car collided with a number of other vehicles injuring several people - including an 8-year-old girl.
The silver Vauxhall Zafira, which had been stolen during a creeper burglary in nearby Servia Street, collided with three other vehicles on Falls Road at around 8pm.
At least three males in their late teens or early twenties were spotted running from the Zafira immediately after the collision.
Those injured were taken to hospital for treatment however none of their injuries were described as serious or life-threatening.
"There was debris everywhere - shattered windows, pieces of twisted metal and car parts," an eyewitness said.
So violent was the crash that one of the vehicles - thought to be the stolen car - flipped onto its roof.
"People tried to catch the three guys in the silver car - but they got away," one witness said.
"There were people, including a child, being ferried to hospital in neck braces.
"I can't believe everyone got out alive," he added.
Last night, West Belfast MP Paul Maskey said: "It's really a miracle that no one was killed in this incident.
"My thoughts are with those who have been injured in this terrifying crash.
"People are saying that it may have been a stolen car that caused the crash, though that has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
"I understand that one man ran off into Cavendish Street, and I would call on anyone with information to come forward to the authorities.
"Whether or not it was stolen, the car which ended up on its roof must have been travelling at very high speed. We are very lucky no one has been killed here tonight."
Inspector Kelly Moore is appealing for anyone with information, or who can identify the individuals who fled the scene, to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
