Stephen Joyce was never sent to the line

In a story last week on the sale of Dublin footballer Ray Hazley's medal collection we incorrectly said that Stephen Joyce was the Galway footballer sent off during the 1983 All-Ireland Football Final between Galway and Dublin.

Mr Joyce, who played football for Clonbur for 35 years, also played championship football at minor and senior level for Galway.

"I was never sent off, I never even had my name taken in a championship match," Mr Joyce said yesterday. Mr Joyce is still involved in the GAA and was manager of the Clonbur team which won the junior All-Ireland title in 2012.

The Sunday Independent is happy to correct this and emphasise that Mr Joyce was not the Galway player who was sent off during the controversial match.
