Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan spoke at Dundalk Garda Station today on the eve of the first anniversary (January 25) of the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
"It is almost a year since the callous murder of our colleague Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot dead while carrying out his normal day-to-day duties as a member of An Garda Síochána.
"His murder had a profound impact not only on his colleagues in Dundalk, but also on the wider An Garda Síochána family."
"It had an impact not only on the lives of those he positively affected in Co. Louth through his work, or through his involvement with the GAA community, but also country wide."
"Most importantly, his senseless, cold-blooded murder led to the bereavement of Caroline and their two children."
"It is Caroline and the two children who are uppermost in my mind at this time, as we remember a man who involved himself wholly in his family, his community, and in his job, and who ultimately gave his life in the service of them."
"Our thoughts are also with all of Adrian’s family and friends, and colleagues in An Garda Síochána in Dundalk and throughout the country."
"And it is with the same dedication and thoroughness that Adrian provided throughout his career in An Garda Síochána that his colleagues continue to work. The investigation team are tirelessly maintaining their enquiries to ensure his killers are brought to justice."
"Tens of thousands of man hours have been devoted to the investigation to ensure the perpetrators of this senseless act are caught."
Throughout the course of the investigation there has been:
- Over 4,000 individual tasks undertaken
- Over 2,100 statements taken
- Approximately 400,000 hours of CCTV reviewed
- Over 1,200 exhibits gathered
- More than 30 searches undertaken under warrant
"Invaluable assistance has been provided to the force by Interpol, Europol, the Dutch Police and the FBI, for which I’d like to thank them."
"I’d especially like to thank the PSNI. The level of support and unstinting dedication shown by them in the course of this investigation is indicative of the close working relationship between the two organisations."
At this time, I would like to appeal to anyone with information on Adrian’s murder to come forward and assist our enquiries. There are people out there who are shielding the killers and it is not too late for them to do the right thing and tell us what they know."
"I will continue to ensure that all of the organisation’s resources are made available to the investigating team, for I firmly believe that Adrian’s memory is best honoured by seeing those involved in this terrible crime being held accountable for their brutal actions.”
"Anyone with information in relation to the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe can phone in confidence the incident room in Dundalk Garda Station at 042 9388470 or the Garda Confidential Number at 1800 666 111."
