THE Marie Keating Foundation raised up to €15,000 at its annual Christmas lunch, helping to fund vital services for Irish families touched by cancer.

Dressed in their seasonal sparkle, more than 220 guests turned out at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin yesterday to enjoy a three-course meal and raise money for a worthy cause.

With families around the country experiencing financial difficulty, the charity's fundraising director Linda Keating, sister to Boyzone singer Ronan, told the Irish Independent of the importance of meeting the requests from people with cancer struggling to pay bills.

All monies raised yesterday will go towards the Marie Keating Foundation's Comfort Fund. The lunch was held in partnership with Newstalk Radio and MCd by the station's 'Breakfast' presenter, Chris Donoghue, a cancer survivor.

Linda Keating also said that while the foundation, named after her mother Marie, who died in 1998, deals largely with breast cancer patients, raising awareness for men's health was high on the agenda.
